Self Aligning Ball Bearing

This is the abbreviation for angular contact ball bearings. Bearings with different contact angles can sustain higher axial loads effectively. The standard ball bearings are the ideal solution for applications requiring high runout accuracy, such as machine tool main spindles.

Inner and outer rings of standard ball bearings are made of carbon-chromium steel and hardened to withstand the heavy contact pressure between rolling elements and bearing rings.

Carbonitriding of both inner and outer rings is a basic hardening process adopted by many ball bearing manufacturers. With this special heat treatment, the hardness of the raceway surface is increased to reduce wear accordingly.

Ultra-clean steel is available for some series of standard ball bearings to achieve improved wear resistance.

Since contact fatigue is usually triggered by hard non-metallic inclusions, modern bearings require extremely high steel cleanliness.
